Parenting Tips And Advice For The New Parent And The Not So New Parent

The process of raising children and educating them from birth till they reach adulthood and even beyond at times falls under the domain of parenting. Sometimes, parents are unable or unwilling to provide such care and the care is thus entrusted to close relatives. There are also cases when it is performed by adoptive parents, foster parents as well as institutions and even godparents. The most important function an individual may have in life is often the one function least prepared for.  Parenting is the hardest job a person may ever have.  The most training people receive for this job is simply the experience of being raised by their own parents.

The most basic parenting tip for the new parent is ‘Do not panic’.  This may seem humorous but is actually quite a practical parenting tip.  Babies respond to the environment and attitude around them.  As a parent, remaining relaxed and calm will help the infant to be relaxed and calm.  This can be hard to do as a new parent but must be achieved to keep the home more peaceful for everyone.

It is good if the new parent can have help, for a short time, from an older experienced parent who is calm and self-assured.  Most of the time, one of the grandmothers of the infant will stay with the family to offer parenting tips and support.  New parents need to be ready to accept this help.  If the grandparents are not available, other support can be found from a neighbor or perhaps an older person in ones church.  Some hospitals may have a list of volunteer “grandparents” that will help new parents.

Parenting Tips for the Future

The most important parenting tip for the lifetime of the parent is to realize that the child is going to make mistakes.  This is easily said but often harder to deal with in reality.  Being a parent is about helping the child avoid the most dangerous mistakes and handling failures and successes.  This begins with teaching a child the stove is hot and continues into their adulthood with career and family decisions.  Many small children, after told the stove is hot, will reach up and touch it.  As a parent, be ready with cold water for the burn and then reinforce the teaching.

A parent shouldn’t berate the child for doing what is a natural response.  A parent just needs to begin to teach the child that a parent has instruction which is valid for life.  This experience may help the child to realize that when given instruction about more dangerous things such as drugs, alcohol, and premarital sex the instruction is probably worth listening to.  No one enjoys a burnt finger and the child will want to prevent further pain. Nevertheless, there is still plenty of information available that provides age-appropriate parenting tips and which helps parents take care of their children. Some of the frequently mentioned topics include nutrition, safety, common problems and what to expect at the pediatrician.

Moms and Dads often need parenting advice that will help them deal with common problems such as sibling rivalry, potty training, getting the child to sleep at night as well as managing behavior problems and temper tantrums. There are many qualified experts out there that deal with such topics and who will be best suited to get parenting advice from for all manner of child rearing issues. Using the RPM3 guidelines and the different parenting advice available should help parents sift the useful from the not-so-useful advice to become sensible and loving parents.

Improve Your Parenting Skills

Tip! Do some study. You probably weren’t taught parenting skills at school or college, yet parenting is the most vital contribution to society.

The many parenting skills needed to succeed

Anyone that knows much about parenting can easily tell you the parenting skills needed to successfully raise children can list for miles. Along with 20-30 years fulltime, and then still family after that; nearly any skill required elsewhere will come up! It would be impossible to hit upon all these parenting skills; however this article will attempt to describe a few to start with.

Patience with your children

One of the more important parenting skills is patience from day one. You will find many things that need to be taken care of throughout the years your children are growing. Some things will come quicker than you expect in their growth and development; though other things may seem to take forever.

From walking and being sure they stay safe, to their first words, onto their first letters; don’t forget the times they may have food target practice from their highchair on you. Never forget their early smiles in these situations.

Tip! Common sense should provide enough guidance along with the informative books and medical help mentioned previously. Even people with no experience with babies can successfully bring up a child without lessons in ‘parenting skills’.

Perseverance to stick by your children

You can’t give up on your children regardless of the tasks at hand. Whether they are the same things other parents do all the time, or those that require new parenting skills to handle.

Even in the worst possible situations, a good parent will stick with their children. This doesn’t mean stick with what’s wrong, though make sure they understand and do what’s necessary to make it right; though after all is said and done, you must move back onto positive direction. You are leading by example.

Faith in your children

Never forget to continue to believe that your children will succeed and come up to things better than you imagined. Taking a lot of time, and believing that your children can do the best they are capable of will rub off on them.

Tip! You want to have the best parenting skills for your family. And while you’re at it, you want to overcome all your family problems and challenges.

They depend on this example as much as in nearly any other aspect of you raising them. Your child(ren)’s greatest examples are those they see all day. From birth they have plenty of time to watch, and then attempt to repeat. Count on the fact they will try to be you at numerous steps along the way.

Make sure to avoid examples of things you don’t want your children doing, or spend time to help them understand that they can’t do something and why. This can be a tricky balance and comes from well experienced parenting skills.

Tip! Here’s a common scenario. A parent has been reading up on positive thinking, self-development, parenting skills or such like.

And More

Beyond these very important basic parenting skills is your ability to reflect on your own past. With it you saw many parenting skills, and went onto seeing some of what was working well, and what didn’t have much effect at all. You may have made these observations around siblings in your own home as well as when visiting friends.

You also have to be an engineer from the first time something breaks dangerously and you need to repair it to safety until you can replace it. This might be parts of your home, or baby furniture. It might even be the family vehicle.

On other days you will need to be the accountant, balancing the books and being sure they add up to food on the table and other needs of your children. Holiday time brings you a lot of delighted shopping, and more bookkeeping. But it makes the most positively memories for you and your child(ren).

Tip! You can’t give up on your children regardless of the tasks at hand. Whether they are the same things other parents do all the time, or those that require new parenting skills to handle.

In The End

It all comes down to you need to be able to pick up all sorts of parenting skills along the way to bring up your child. After 20-25 years fulltime, you will definitely have very many new experiences that help elsewhere too. This is the time when you find out how successful; though it isn’t over yet, as you still have a family even after they have moved out and continue to live from your example.

Tip! Probably the best parenting skills you can develop are high self-esteem and confidence.

In order to become the parent you desire to be, you must investigate, allow us to help guide you where to look and get your questions answered:

Knowing you own kid - we all are different, and have unique character aspects that identifies us to be ourselves. We discovered that most children will copy their parents, and desire to follow into their footsteps, but then again there are those who do not want to be like their parents and defy. The children that rebel against what you have been used to are the ones you will need good parenting skills with, they will upset you and leave you discouraged at times.

Tip! Even those who are superbly confident in their work or social situations, often teeter on the edge when it comes to their parenting skills.

Rediscover your inner child - you need to step inside your children’s shoes and remember what it was like to be a child, this is called rediscovering your inner child. You tend to forget how to relax and then get stuck in a bored lifestyle and stressful jobs. The best way to understand the issues at hand with your children is to place yourself in their shoes, and see things from their own perspective; you will then gain an understanding for how they are feeling and why they are rebelling. Good parenting skills will teach you how to listen to your child’s demands and not relinquish to them, but how to stand strong and view the issue in your child’s eyes and come to a solution that pleases both of you.

Tip! A lot of parents’ parenting skills come from their own experiences in growing up. They pass down the identical ideals and traditions that their parents instilled in them.

Some things that you will learn with good parenting skills is when to allow your child to win and when to make sure she loses in the battles you will face. There will be times when you have to disapprove of your child’s actions or attitude, but you do not want to this in a way that it will traumatize the child. Too much criticism is not good for any parent/child relationship.
